THE NATURAL BEDROOM by VIVETIQUE:

Your health and well-being is greatly affected by the quality of sleep you experience, making your mattress system one of the most important home purchases. A great night's sleep comes down to one factor – comfort. With an organic mattress system from the Natural Bedroom by Vivetique, we can provide you the ultimate in sleep and comfort… naturally.

Commercial mattresses and bedding from furniture and mattress chain stores can provide you with comfort too… but are negligent when it comes to your health. What you don't see or know about, and what mattress manufacturers aren’t required to tell you, are the toxins that you continually breathe and absorb into your body… while you and your children are sleeping.

This is due to commercial mattress and bedding manufacturers increasing reliance on synthetic petrochemicals used in making mattresses. Plastics, polyurethane foams and polyesters have been proven to emit toxic gasses that you inhale while you sleep. Commercially produced cotton is saturated in pesticides and, along with commercial wool, cleaned with chemical solvents, all of which contributes to your nightly dose of chemicals. Dust mites thrive in non-wool mattresses, their feces a prevalent source of allergies.

Memory Foam Mattresses are the worst threat to your health. Memory foam is essentially polyurethane foam, made from chemicals including polyhydroxy polyol and toluene di-isocyanate, a registered carcinogen. Boric acid, known as roach killer, and other chemicals never tested on humans are now being used as fire retardants. Chemicals used to make memory foam are essentially by-products of petroleum.

While commercial mattress manufacturers tell us their product is safe and non-toxic, why are the chemicals used in their production being found in women's breast milk and the umbilical cord blood of newborn babies? (www.ewg.org)

The Natural Bedroom by Vivetique mattresses are hand-made with only the purest ingredients:

Pure Grow Wool™ - This program calls for no chemical pesticides or artificial materials in the sheep’s environment. Wool make our mattresses natural fire-resistant, without toxic chemicals.

100% Organic Cotton – Unbleached and undyed to maintain its natural beauty and comfort.

100% Natural Latex – more durable and comfortable than chemically-made memory foam,:p>latex is naturally mold, mildew, dust mite and flame resistant – naturally adjusts to your body:

Our innersprings are heat-treated to greatly reduce EMF conductivity:

Make your next night’s sleep a healthy night sleep… with a natural mattress system from the Natural Bedroom by Vivetique… exclusively from Back & Body Solutions. Call us to schedule a consultation in our private showroom… and bring your pajamas since we give you as much time as you need to choose the right mattress system for your body. Back & Body Solutions is currently open by appointment only.

CAN YOUR MATTRESS MAKE YOU SICK?

But, you might be wondering why we don’t sell Tempur-pedic® and other memory foam products like Relax The Back and other back stores do.

It’s very simple. We cannot sell infrared saunas to detoxify you from chemical exposure and sell something that will expose you to toxic petrochemicals for 8 hours every day.

OUR MATTRESSES

Our latex mattresses are made from 100% Pure Latex

100% pure natural rubber is derived from the Heave brasiliensis (rubber tree) and is durable, non-toxic and environmentally friendly

Latex is 3-4 times more durable than poly-urethane foam and is naturally hypoallergenic

Latex is bacteriostatic and has a natural mold, mildew and dust mite resistance unmatched by synthetic or blended mattresses

Breathable pinhole design provides air circulation to dissipate body perspiration

Natural latex contains no toxic substances, emits no ozone-depleting gases and has no synthetics

THEIR MATTRESS

Memory Foam mattresses are a form of polyurethane foamPolyurethane foam is produced by combining polyhydroxy polyol (petroleum based) with toluene di-isocyanate. Isocyanates are the synthetic petrochemical from which all polyurethane products are made from

Toluene di-isocyanate is a carcinogen designated by the EPA, OSHA and the CDC. Clinical effects of typical asthma occur over low concentration of exposure over a long timeIn addition, polyurethane foam contains chemical catalysts, surfactants, emulsifiers, pigments and other chemical additives. These include benzenes, styrene, formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, limonene and other toxic chemicals.

100% organic cotton is grown, cultivated and processed without the use of genetically modified seeds, herbicides, pesticides, bleaching solvents, chemical dyes and formaldehyde

Most comfortable, versatile & durable of all fibers

Our Sonoma County Pure Grow Wool™ program follows organic agricultural practices such as no pesticides or herbicides on the pastures and no chemicals or hormones in the animal feed

This program utilizes positive, humane management of living conditions and good nutrition to maximize animal health

Commercially grown cotton uses genetically modified seeds and one pound of cotton has been sprayed with an average of 1.25 lbs. of pesticidesCotton is processed using bleaching solvents, chemical dyes and formaldehyde

Commercially grown wool allows for pesticides and herbicides in the pasture and chemicals and hormones in the animal feed – mostly use wool imported from foreign countries

Wool is naturally flame resistant so toxic chemical fire retardants are not necessary. By blending wool with other natural fibers allow our mattresses to conform to state and federal flammability laws

All of our products are made from 100% chemically- free organic ingredients that cannot out-gas toxins into the air

We have nothing to hide about the ingredients or manufacturing process of our mattresses and bedding and we would be happy to show you

Industrial strength toxic chemical fire retardants that are added to conventional and memory foam mattresses include boric acid (roach killer), DBDE (precursor to PBDE recently banned), melamine, antimony trioxide and vinylidiene

All are known reproductive, neurological, cardio-vascular and developmental toxicants – these chemicals have never been tested for human use

Testing by Anderson Labs show that conventional and memory foam mattresses release toxic chemicals into the air (Arc. Of Envir. Health)

Mattress manufactures don't want to know and are not required by law to tell you what chemicals they use in manufacturing or for fire protection in their mattresses

THE TRUTH ABOUT MEMORY FOAM MATTRESSES

Mattress manufacturers are required by law to tell you what the mattress is made of but is not required to list the ingredients. Tempur-pedic and other memory foam mattresses are made from a type of flexible polyurethane foam. So, what is polyurethane foam made from? Here is the part you will lose sleep over.

Polyurethane foam is a fully cross-linked reaction product of polyhydroxy, polyols, toluene di-isocyanate, catalysts, surfactants, pigments, and water. Polyurethane foam product is a polymeric material consisting of repeating units of carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, and nitrogen. Source: www.foamorder.com

Other ingredients used in making chemical foam mattresses include amines, siloxanes, formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, n-hexanal, styrene, isopropylbenzene. Limonene, trimethylbenzene, nitrobenzene, menthadiene, B-ocimene, ethyhexanoic acid and other chemicals.

Lets look at some of these chemicals that people are sleeping on more in depth:

Toulene di-isocyanate

A registered carcinogen designated by the EPA, OSHA, the National Toxicology Program, the International Cancer Research Agency and the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta. TDI is highly volatile and is an irritant to the skin and mucous membranes. The most common and most serious effects occur in the lungs. Sudden acute bronchospasm attacks, pulmonary oedema, and respiratory distress may be life-threatening and may occur days, or even months, after the first exposure. Symptoms may also be delayed. An additional risk is CNS-depression that can occur after exposure to high levels TDI and also irritate the skin, eyes, nose, and throat.

After low concentrations of exposure over a long time, the clinical effects consist of typical asthma with expiratory bradypnoea and eosinophillia in the spectorate.

TDI is a synthetic organic chemical. It does not occur naturally in the environment.

TDI are reactive ingredients that are used in combination with polyether and polyester polyols to produce polyurethane foams. They are mainly used in the production of flexible polyurethane foams, polyurethane coatings, and elastomeric coating systems, adhesives, and sealants.

FIRE HAZARD

Typical foam used in mattresses has about the same combustion rating as kerosene and are considered by fire marshals to be “solid gasoline”. If ignited, foam can produce rapid flame spread, intense heat, dense black smoke, and toxic gases.

Therefore, memory foam manufacturers have to spray the foam with another synthetic chemical, PBDE (polybrominated diphenyl ether) that acts as a flame retardant. They are having to use a unknown new chemical now because the flame retardant, PBDE, previously used was banned due to its showing up in breast milk and has been linked to learning disorders and ADHD in children and to disruption of thyroid hormone balance. Also, fire retardant foams may generate emissions of hydrogen chloride, hydrogen bromide, hydrogen fluoride, or phosphoric acid. Source: OSHA Material Safety Data Sheet

HAZARDOUS DECOMPOSITION OR BYPRODUCTS

Carbon monoxide; acetaldehyde, acrylonitrile, TDI, polymer fragments, oxides of nitrogen and hydrogen cyanide. Source: OSHA Material Safety Data Sheet

Memory foam has to be treated with another chemical because foam is a great environment for bacteria and dust mites to thrive.
